Homeless Mother Tells Legislators:
Pre-K Program Is Setting Up Her Child to Succeed in Kindergarten and Saving Her Family
What: Abril Mitchell-Ward, a parent of a child that attends the Brigadoon ECEAP program in Federal Way will have an opportunity to testify as part of a House Work Session on Wednesday January 14th. Abril, who is currently homeless and staying in a house with no refrigerator and plumbing only in the bathroom, will describe how the ECEAP program is helping her autistic child get ready for kindergarten and what they are doing to lift her entire family out of poverty.
This Work Session is meant to give lawmakers serving on the House Early Learning and Children’s Services Committee an overview of early learning. In addition to Abril, speakers will include representatives from the Department of Early Learning, Thrive Washington, the Washington State Institute for Public Policy, the Department of Social and Health Services, Child Care Aware, and child care providers.
When: Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 1:30pm to 3:25pm (Abril will likely testify at about 2:30pm based on the schedule)
